Hello 2016!

Tuesday 5 January 2016

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all having a fabulous 2016 so far, I certainly am! What with moving back up to uni, lectures, assignments and exam revision, I haven't had much time to think about New Year's resolutions, let alone write about them up here. So now is the time for me to think about what I would like to achieve in the coming year.

I suppose my main aim is to be joyful and to spread happiness in as many ways as I can. I want to wake up every day feeling grateful for all I have and positive about all I will achieve that day. Every day is a blessing and I am going to endeavour to remember that, so much of what is wrong with the world stems from the general lack of appreciation for our planet's beauty and worth.

With that in mind here goes:

1 - Achieve something every day, be that finishing an assignment, making someone laugh or simply enjoying an experience.

2 - Try not to have a negative impact on anybody's life, I want to go by Thumper's moral of "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all". Yes, I know he is a fictional rabbit from Bambi, but it's still good advice!

3 - I want to read at least one classic and one book of poetry each month, I'm kicking it off with John Keats poems selected by Sir Andrew Motion and Sophocles' Three Theban Plays :-)

4 - I would like to eat healthier, by that I don't mean I want to diet, I mean that I want to stop being lazy when I'm at uni. A bar of chocolate is NOT a healthy dinner! It's so easy to get lazy when I'm only cooking for myself, I much prefer cooking for my partner at home, however, I am going to get into the habit of having three proper meals each day.

While these are delicious, they are a snack not a meal!

I suppose that's it, I'm sure I'll find some more things to be resolute about, but that's it for now! Hopefully these are fairly realistic and achievable goals, I'm not aiming for the impossible. I always prefer to set goals like this, you feel so much better when you actually manage to stick to them.

What have you guys resolved to do this year? Also, if you have any suggestions or requests for monthly books I should read and review let me know in the comments below! I plan on being far more active in terms of book reviews :-)

xoxo

  1. Achieving something every day is such a nice resolution whether it's a little something or a big something. I might have to steal that one for myself!

    1. Thank you, Happy New Year to you too! Being healthy at uni is always a struggle, I find myself feeling guilty if I take time off from revision to cook a proper meal, which is ridiculous! Good luck with your resolutions :-) Nice blog!
